Set in downtown Anchorage, Wild Starr is not only a place to discover gorgeous creations from Alaskan artists—it’s also a community gathering space that hosts fun events focused on creating your own works of art.
Mother-daughter duo Linda and Angel opened Wild Starr in 2023 with a mission: Create a space to showcase local Alaskan art and bring people together. In their gift shop, you’ll find a curated collection of Alaska-made jewelry, housewares, kitchen items, and apparel, as well as local foodstuffs like preserves and spices—all things that make for fantastic souvenirs. You’ll also discover items from women-owned businesses in the Lower 48.
These unique treasures are nothing like what you’d find in a mass marketplace like Amazon. Linda (a former nonprofit executive) and Angel (an artist) buy everything wholesale— not on commission. It’s a unique arrangement that guarantees artists will be paid for their work.
Even more fun happens in the back of the shop, where a large event space hosts artistic workshops. These fun gatherings may include a “tipsy” painting night with alcohol-infused ice cream or an opportunity to paint and keep your own tumblers. Wild Starr holds workshops for adults and kids alike, including for those ages 2–6, as well as art programs for those ages 7–14. They’re great opportunities for locals and travelers to mingle and create their own keepsakes.
Check out Wild Starr’s online calendar for events that align with your trip, or give a call to see if there’s space to drop in for an activity or workshop. And keep an eye out for pop-up events where local vendors come in and sell their items directly. Or book the space for a birthday celebration, bachelorette party, or company offsite. Bringing people together to create and have fun is what Wild Starr is all about!
