While you’re checking out historic downtown Ketchikan, stop in to Sweet Mermaids for a piece of fresh baked pastry and a good cup of Raven’s Brew coffee. It’s right near the cruise ship docks, so you might even see the ship’s crew indulging in a treat. The creative cooks here think up a new lunch sandwich and hearty soup daily, which you can enjoy along with free wi-fi and friendly smiles from the mermaids – whose motto is “We try harder.” Visitors will have to try hard not to pick up some extra sweets for the road. One note: Seating is limited, but if you can’t find a spot inside, there’s also a picnic table across the street.
