This 8-mile round trip trail is unknown even to some locals. Follow the Dewey Lake Trail that starts on the east end of Second Avenue. Take a right (south) turn at the south end of Lower Dewey Lake, along the mountainside, leading through a mixed stand of trees and descending to a beachfront jutting south toward Haines on Lynn Canal. As the trail descends toward the water, follow the trail right toward a picnic table and privy. The trail continues south to a rocky beach and site of an old sawmill. There are two spots for pitching a tent. Pick up a free permit at Skagway's police station.
