Salmon are practically synonymous with Alaska, and when you go angling for them with Sitka Expeditions, you’ll be in one of the state’s best fishing spots for salmon, as well as the occasional ling cod and rock fish. Plus, the company’s owners were both born and raised in Sitka and have been fishing these waters their whole lives, so they have inside scoop on the best spots to cast your line.
Fishing with a View
Sitka Expeditions offers 6-hour outings, but can customize the tour if the group doesn’t have that much time. Once they pick you up, you’ll head out on the company’s brand-new, state-of-the-art 34-foot boat designed and built for an optimal fishing experience.
Sit inside the heated cabin or outside in the crisp air while cruising out to the fishing grounds, enjoying the provided snacks and water. You’ll pass mountains and the Mount Edgecumbe Volcano as you keep an eye out for whales and sea otters.
The Catch
The unique ecosystem of the Sitka area attracts tons of fish, and you’ll get pro tips on how to hook and land your catch. Toward the beginning of the season, you’ll be casting for king salmon. As the season progresses, you’ll be going for king and silver salmon; later on, there’s a larger menu of kings, silvers, chums, and pinks.
Take it Home
When you get a bite, reel in your catch reel and your guide will net it, gut it, and store it. Processors will pick it up, flash-freeze it, and ship it back home, so you can enjoy it while reliving the story of your unforgettable outing.
