Enjoy a 2- or 4-hour wildlife cruise with Sitka Expeditions, out of Sitka, for an intimate expedition with passionate Alaskans amid stunning scenery and shimmering waters. You’ll be looking for whales, sea otters, bears, and a wealth of birds. As you pass craggy, snow-capped mountains and a volcanic island, you’ll also see active fisheries and fishermen, giving you a window into real Alaska.
The short time commitment makes this a perfect outing for those on a cruise. And it’s not only family-friendly—children ages 2 and up are welcome—it’s also a very personal experience: The owner personally contacts each customer before the cruise to ensure a seamless tour.
Experience Scenic Beauty and Wildlife Encounters
You’ll be heading to a wildlife-rich area full of birds and marine life, and the scenic landscape can’t be beat. Expect to see mountains, shorelines teeming with tidal activity, and the Mount Edgecumb Volcano as you take in the aroma of the Alaskan wild with the breeze blowing through your hair.
The 36-foot expedition boat, the M/V Solaris, holds a maximum of 6, so it feels more like a private tour. The boat’s not only spacious with a large restroom, it’s also fast, so you’ll quickly get out to see the jaw-dropping sights.
Choose Your Adventure: 2-Hour or 4-Hour Trips
2-Hour Trip: Explore Sitka Sound
Head off to Sitka Sound, where you’ll find abundant wildlife. You’ll visit the Medvejie Hatchery and watch local fishermen pulling in the day’s catch. Keep an eye out for whales along the coastline.
4-Hour Trip: Deep Wilderness Exploration
Go even deeper into the wilderness to visit Redoubt and Silver bays. You’ll visit a huge bird sanctuary, Saint Lazaria, with a cave you’ll sail right into, see salmon jumping, and watch for bears along the way.
Private Bookings Available
You can also book out the entire boat with smaller groups if you want an even more private experience.
Meet the Team: Passionate Locals with Rich Experience
While Sitka Expeditions is a brand-new business, the married owners, Parker and Zaide, were born and raised in Sitka and come with a wealth of experience—Zaide grew up in the marine tourism industry. Both are passionate about providing the best possible experience for visitors.
