Traitor’s Cove at Margarita Bay is one of the better bear viewing destinations, and the crew at Seawind Aviation are experts at getting you there. This family business, owned by Steve Kamm and his wife Lesley, operates two iconic De Havilland Beavers.
The three-hour trip starts with a short flight over the Tongass National Forest to Traitors Cove. Access is limited to a few visitors each year, so this is truly a special opportunity. A trained guide will escort you through the forest to a viewing platform, where you can take in bears feeding on salmon as eagles dive in and out for scraps.
Seawind also offers bear viewing options on Prince of Wales Island, a 30-minute Alps and Harbor tour of Ketchikan, or a 90-minute trip into breathtaking Misty Fjords National Monument. Regardless of your destination, Steve will you show you great views along with an engaging live narration and a unique perspective into the history of Ketchikan.
The Kamm family has lived and worked in Ketchikan for nearly a century. Steve can regale you with stories of his father, Cliff (also a pilot), and great-grandfather E.C. Phillips, who worked on the oldest cold storage facility in town and went on to establish his own cannery (E.C. Phillips and Son) which still operates today.
