Description
The only U.S. Forest Service cabin on Mitkof Island’s road system, Raven’s Roost accommodates eight and is a steep, four-mile hike up Raven Trail. It starts near the airport off Haugen Drive, about a mile from town. At 1,800 feet elevation, the cabin perches on a mountain top with expansive views of Kupreanof Island and Wrangell Narrows. Users must provide bedding and cooking gear and advised to bring #1 heating oil, as provided oil supplies are depleted. It’s a popular spot for skiers and snowshoers in winter.
