Start & End Cities
Start: Anchorage
End: Anchorage
Spend 3 nights at Alaska’s oldest recreation lodge — founded in 1937 and set 125 air miles northwest of Anchorage. Enjoy trail rides on horseback, guided hikes, gold panning, or water sports like canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding on the lake in front of the lodge. Each morning you'll enjoy coffee and a full breakfast prepared by their chef. Each afternoon features appetizers and a special "drink of the day" or a micro-brew on tap from the Matanuska Brewery. For dinner, dine on a freshly prepared meal and dessert. Retire to your cabin, take an even paddle around the lake, or roast marshmallows around the campfire. Each 3-night stay can be customized to the interest of the guest.

Itinerary
Depart Anchorage around 10am for your one-hour scenic flight to Rainy Pass Lodge. You'll be greeted by your guide when you land enjoy some light refreshments while you learn about the lodge. You'll get a tour of the property and have time to unpack before lunch. Then, saddle up for a ride on their network of scenic trails. After your ride you'll have some free time to enjoy other activities available at the lodge such as water sports, nature hikes, shooting sports, or simply relaxing and enjoying the scenery.
Enjoy breakfast and activities around the lodge in the morning before taking another trail ride. This time you'll head toward the 600' "Look Out Hill" where you'll dine on a well-prepared picnic lunch while you take in the amazing vista of Ptarmigan Valley. You may even see some wildlife!
Back at the lodge you'll have the option of a short hike and gold panning expedition or other lodge activities. You may boat across Puntilla Lake, hike up a little hill and down the other side to Squaw Creek to try your luck and find that big nugget. (Option to horseback ride out to a remote log cabin for an overnight adventure could also be available!)
After another nice breakfast you may join your guide on a hike up "Monument Hill". Begin by boating across Puntilla Lake to the trail head of the roughly 1000' hill to the monument pile where you will add a rock to keep the monument growing! The top of Monument Hill provides one of the best views to capture the Alaska Mountain Range, Ptarmigan Valley, Puntilla Lake, Rainy Pass Lodge and the Hanging Glacier all in one epic shot. Those who have enjoyed enough hiking for one day may return to the lodge and those who want more may extend their hike up the mountain toward the ridge line or into Squaw Creek. Once back at the lodge and after another refreshing lunch you may fill the rest of the afternoon with activities available at the lodge.
Wake up and prepare for your flight back to Anchorage. You'll typically arrive around 11am.
