Portage Creek Trail

The only maintained trail outside of Port Alsworth, the Portage Creek Trail begins at the Joe Thompson Public Use Cabin. To get there, you’ll need a boat or float plane drop-off at the Public Use Cabin. From Port Alsworth, Tulchina Adventures may provide boat drop-offs and Lake Clark Air is available for floatplane charters. Follow the trail for one mile to cross Portage Creek. Continue another two miles into the alpine tundra. From the end of the trail, you can explore for miles along an alpine ridge, overlooking Lake Clark to the south and seemingly endless mountains to the north.
