Southeast Alaska’s first craft distillery was launched in 2013 by Haines residents Heather Shade and Sean Copeland. It has won nine national awards, including a prestigious double-gold-medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition for its 50 Fathoms Gin, its most popular spirit. Other offerings include bourbon, rye, vodka, and absinthe. Now at 18,000 bottles per year, the company is doubling production with a new distilling building, expanding its tasting room, offering tours and penetrating into Lower 48 markets. Cocktails that mix company spirits and local ingredients are available for purchase in the distillery’s post-and-beam tasting room overlooking Chilkoot Inlet in Fort Seward.
