To drive to this trail, turn at the “Swimming/hiking/camping sign.” Next, park along the river bed and start the mile loop, up to where the river meets the trail and can no longer be accessed. Then, walk back along the river, or head into the trees for a quiet wooded trail. You’ll get stunning views of Knik Glacier, the Knik River, and the Chugach mountain range. Watch for eagles, either conversing on the sand bars or soaring overhead. This makes an easy, gentle, flat walk—but it’s also drivable if you prefer to stay in your car.
