For an island city with fewer than 10,000 year-round residents, Ketchikan has its share of world-class artists, including Steven Thomas, who creates one of the best-tasting, freshest chocolates you’ll find anywhere.
Enter Ketchicandies on historic Mission Street, but beware: if you came just “to look,” you’re kidding yourself. You can carve a block of chocolate out of the air in this aromatically-rich Parisian-style store. Mountains of fresh chocolate surround you – and at the end of the aisle is a young lady who is happy to trade you chocolate for money.
Try some of Thomas’ unique Alaskan-flavored truffles, jellies or decadent fudge (a good portion of the town is addicted to it). If you want to take some home, ask Steven or Lori to send off a box for you (they ship to anywhere in the U.S. and Canada). Otherwise, chances are pretty good you’ll arrive back home with an empty box.
