Only the hardiest of souls finish the Iditarod each year, mushing through 1,049 miles of ice, snow and frozen river. There are many events in Nome that celebrate this great race, including two fundraisers that you can support no matter where you live. Join in the spirit of the Iditarod and get active, too.
Idita-splash, charity fundraiser for the Nome Northstars Swim club. Between January and March 31 each year. Swim 1,049 laps or minutes (one for each mile of the Iditarod Trail), and receive a unique commemorative t-shirt.
Idita-walk, charity fundraiser for the Nome Community Center. Walk 1,049 minutes between February 1 and March 31. Commemorative pins are sent to all participants and t-shirts go to the finishers.
