From kayaking and fishing to whale-watching and bear-viewing, adventure is always just a step away

From kayaking and fishing to whale-watching and bear-viewing, adventure is always just a step away

You’ll find a welcoming main lodge and will stay in one of the three cozy cabins, each equipped with modern amenities like in-floor heating to keep you warm on chilly evenings. The Puffin cabin features a queen bed and a twin bed, while the Martin and Halibut cabins each have two twin beds and a futon.

You’ll also find a cedar sauna, a cold plunge pool filled with snow runoff water, and yard games. All meals are included (alcohol is extra, but the Alaskan Amber is complimentary ), and you’ll enjoy delicious, home-cooked dishes, made with local fish and vegetables from their garden. Wind down in the evenings around the fire pit, or just relax in your cabin.

Gull Cove is also the ideal place for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, business executive retreats, and other special occasions for up to 10 people.

The owners live on the property, so these third-generation Alaskans—who have lived here their whole lives—will always be nearby. And the lodge really is completely off the grid: Power comes from by a hydroelectric plant that draws water from a river fed by snow runoff.

Exclusive Experiences

The guided tours and excursions take full advantage of the lodge’s unique location in the Tongass National Forest. Go kayaking and hiking. Go out fishing and angle for salmon and halibut. Experience the thrill of whale-watching and bear-viewing. And right on the property, you can check the shrimp and crab pots, or go beachcombing and tide pooling.

You can also take advantage of the lodge’s permits, which allow you to explore areas not open to the public. Opt to visit historic sites like Dundas Bay, which features an ancient Tlingit fort, or go see World War II cannons.

Part of the adventure is just getting to the lodge. While transportation isn’t included, you can fly from Juneau in a float plane and pull right up to the lodge’s dock. Or fly into Gustavus and they can pick you up.
