This 14-mile round-trip starts at Herring Cove and goes to the Green Lake powerhouse, or to the Green Lake Dam. It’s a traffic-free utility corridor on a well-maintained gravel road, along the shore of Silver Bay, a classic Alaskan fjord. The Medvejie Hatchery (and the Medvejie Lake trail) are at the halfway point. There are usually a lot of bear signs on the road, but encounters are rare. Nevertheless, cyclists should take all the usual precautions: Ride with a friend, make noise, carry bear spray, be prepared to yield in the event a bear is on the road.
