Majestic bears in the wild and massive rivers of ancient glacial ice are two things many people envision when they think “Alaska.” And this 9-day trip takes you through southern Alaska to see both, including a helicopter ride to experience dog sledding on a glacier, and a to flight prime bear-viewing country in Katmai National Park. You’ll also enjoy other iconic Alaskan adventures like a wildlife cruise and exploring the charming town of Homer.

Day 1

Arrival in Anchorage

Check in at your Anchorage hotela and spend the afternoon exploring the shops of Alaska’s largest city before an evening orientation and dinner.

Day 2

Scenic Drive to Seward and Glacier Dog Sledding

Drive along the spectacular Turnagain Arm to Seward, where you’ll enjoy lunch in town. Then board a helicopter for an unforgettable scenic flight on your way to a remote glacier, where you’ll set down. Meet professional mushers and their excited huskies, then experience the thrill of sledding across the snow with stunning mountain views. Fly back and end the day with dinner at your lodge.

Day 3

Kenai Fjords National Park

Take a spectacular wildlife cruise through Kenai Fjords National Park, with optional kayaking near glaciers and icebergs. Your evening is free to relax or explore, with dinner at a local restaurant in Seward.

Day 4

Exit Glacier and the Harding Icefield

Hike to Exit Glacier at the edge of Harding Icefield, taking in the gorgeous views as you learn about glacial retreat. Your evening is free to relax or explore, with dinner at a local restaurant in Seward.

Day 5

Scenic Drive to Homer and Wilderness Picnic

Drive to the charming waterside town of Homer, stopping to soak in the scenic views and look for wildlife along the way. Then see the area from the air, as you board a (weather-dependent) flight to a remote lake for a picnic dinner surrounded by stunning wilderness.

Day 6

Bear Viewing in Katmai National Park

Today is the day to witness bears in the wild! Take a scenic flight into Katmai National Park and land at one of the prime bear-viewing destinations, such as Hallo Bay, Brooks Falls, or Moraine Creek (depending on the season and weather). Watch these majestic creatures in their natural habitat, then return to Homer for a BBQ dinner.

Day 7

Kachamek Bay Wildlife Cruise

Cruise the wildlife-filled waters of Kachemak Bay State Park, keeping an eye out for sea otters, seals, whales, and birds like puffins and bald eagles. During this full day on the water, you’ll visit sites like Gull Island, known for its nesting shorebirds. Overnight in Homer.

Day 8

Explore Homer and Seafood Farewell

Spend your morning on the famous Homer Spit, exploring its quirky shops and restaurants. After lunch on your own, take a guided nature walk or use this as a backup bear-viewing day. Your final dinner will be a memorable one—a traditional Alaskan seafood boil.
