Departing from the Talkeetna Lakes Day Use Area, conveniently located just a mile and a half from town, Denali Southside will provide you with everything you need to enjoy your tour, including the highest quality gear. Each tour begins with brief paddle instructions to get you on your way, and you’ll soon discover how easy it is to maneuver the stable sit-on-top-style kayaks. While on the water, look for trumpeter swans, loons, river otters, beavers and moose. On clear days, you’ll get stunning views of Mt. Denali and the Alaska Range. Plan 2 hours for the adventure with 1.5 hours spent on the water. Tours depart at 8:30 am, 12:00pm and 4:00pm daily and transportation may be arranged from local area lodging – just be sure to arrange in advance.

Kayak, Canoe, Stand Up Paddle Board Rentals

Rather go out exploring on your own? You can rent a kayak, canoe or paddle board hourly and paddle the lakes on your own. Rentals include boat, paddle, and life-vest, out-riggers are optional for canoes. A brief orientation to the lake and safety instruction is personal and delivered to all guests.

Denali Southside River Guides was established in 2002 with the goal of providing an opportunity for more people to experience the pristine wilderness of the south side of Denali. Shelis and Craig are resident Alaskans and well-versed in the history and culture of the area. Their team of local guides all share a passion for Alaska. Their services offer easy accessibility to a bit of ‘untouched’ wilderness right off the road.

If you’re heading further north, Denali Southside offers kayak tours and rentals on Byers Lake in Denali State Park, as well as a trailhead shuttle service from Byers Lake to trailheads along the 25 miles long Kesugi Ridge in Denali State Park.
