Description
Rustic Cabin, approximately 12' x 20'.
Facilities
The cabin is built from a cedar "Pan Abode" kit and the site also includes a wood shed, outhouse and shower house. There are four wooden sleeping platforms, foam pads, and wood stove. Firewood is provided, but must be split; tools are provided. Each cabin contains a basic supply of cooking pots, pans and utensils for four to six people. Some people bring additional cooking gear. Water is available near the cabin but must be boiled for 5 minutes or filter with a device effective to less than five microns

Western side of Shuyak Island.
Location
This cabin is located in Carry Inlet on the western side of Shuyak Island, which sits at the northern end of the Kodiak Island Archipelago. It is about 50 air miles north of the town of Kodiak. Access to Shuyak Island is via boat or floatplane only.

Terrain
The cabin is located inside a protected saltwater bay just up from the water's edge in a dense old growth Sitka spruce forest.
Special Features
The area is excellent for kayaking. There are good salmon fishing streams one mile to the south (access to these is best by boat). This is one of the most popular cabins for deer hunters. Cabin users may also find excellent beach combing on the outer coast. Whales, otters, sea lions, and many kinds of seabirds can be viewed from the entrance to Carry Inlet.

Portable Cookstove, lantern, and fuel. Full body raingear, matches in waterproof container, first aid kit, compass and tide book (use Seldovia tables) sleeping bag, towel, gloves, hat, waterproof boots, extra food & clothing.

More Info
Weather at Shuyak Island is generally cool and moist. Average annual precipitation is about 75 inches and summertime temperatures range from the low 40's to the low 60's. Poor weather can delay flights to and from the park so all visitors are encouraged to pack extra food and supplies in case they get weathered in.
