Chilkat River Beach
The town’s widest, sunniest and most scenic beach lies 1.5 miles from Main Street, following Third Avenue and Mud Bay Road south down Cemetery Hill. Though it lacks amenities, this mile-long strip is easily the town’s most loved, drawing dog-walkers, walkers and joggers. Besides offering views of Pyramid Island, Chilkat Inlet and its surrounding wall of mountains, the beach is traversed by a salmon stream and meandering gravel trails. Watch the shoreline for deep-sea critters that sometimes wash up here. Be sure to heavily douse all campfires, as brush fires have started quickly here. No amenities.
