2 single upper bunks, 2 double lower bunks, Oil heater (#1 diesel only), Wood stove, Wooden table and benches, Cooking counter, Broom, Pit-type outhouse. Water available from small stream north of cabin. Treat all water before using.

Location

Near the mouth of Cascade Creek in Thomas Bay northeast of Petersburg.

Access

14 miles (22.5 km) by float plane or 19 miles (30.5 km) by boat from Petersburg

Terrain

Beach fringe in front of cabin very flat. Forested slopes directly behind cabin become steeper with elevation gain, eventually rising to Cosmos Peak at 5,000 feet.

Special Features

Berry picking and wildlife viewing in second growth forest behind cabin; bear, deer, moose and mountain goats. Crab, shrimp, halibut and king salmon fishing. Dolly varden trout fishing at the mouth of Cascade Creek. Cascade Creek Trail can be reached from cabin. Trail rated "easy" for first mile (Lower Falls); beyond that, trail gains elevation and becomes more challenging, but well worth the hike. Trail provides access to waterfalls, a whitewater canyon, pristine lakes and alpine areas frequented by mountain goats. Rowboats available at Falls and Swan Lakes; three-sided shelter located near upper waterfall.

#1 diesel fuel, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags, fire extinguisher and fire starter. Firewood generally provided, but not guaranteed. It's a good idea to bring your own water.
