One of the best spots to check out WWII relics, there’s a short trail from the parking area on the side of the road. The forest trail follows the lake’s edge, and there’s a “T” in the trail about 75 yards from the trailhead. Go right and follow the road around. The battery is on the left near the top of a hill. You’ll find the magazines first. There are two magazines, two Panama mounts, and the battery command bunker in the immediate area. High-powered guns, these four magazines could swivel 360 degrees and were meant to keep out sea-based attacks. There are also the remains of ammunition storing bunkers and shelters for troops.
