The intimate, 8-chalet BlueWater BaseCamp immerses you in the solitude of the Alaskan wilderness, yet lies just an hour from the Anchorage airport. Great for couples and families looking for lodging in the wilderness, each BlueWater chalet includes a kitchen or kitchenette, views and sits on the doorstep of adventure.

BaseCamp for Adventure

Check into one of the charming chalet here and make it your base camp for all kinds of adventures. In summer, you’ll be just 2.5 miles from a system of hiking trails; you’ll also be able to rent kayaks and paddle on the lake, go on a guided kayaking trip, or bike the Eklutna Lakeside Trail.

In winter, there’s plenty of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing—you’ll even find snowshoe trails around the property.

And year-round, the property can connect you with local adventure companies. Example tours include guided hikes, bikes, walking tours, foraging, helicopter tours, and more. They can create custom all-inclusive packages, or you can select lodging and activities a la carte.

South-Facing Chalets

Warm, comfortable, and well-equipped, the south-facing chalets are often bathed in light. They were designed shed-style, in order to maximize spectacular views of the Alaskan wilderness; or take them in from the chairs on your front porch. You’ll find two sizes of chalet:

Small Chalets

The intimate one-bedroom, one-bathroom units were designed for two people sharing one queen bed. There’s also a bright living room with a couch, chair, and fold-out table. And the kitchen comes fully stocked with basic cookware, spices, a Keurig coffee maker, stove, microwave, and mini-fridge.

Large Chalets

Built for larger groups of up to six, these two-bedroom, one-bathroom chalets have huge windows that flood the space with light. There’s one queen-size bed in the downstairs bedroom and two other queen-size beds with a loft upstairs. The full kitchen features a fridge, stove, oven, microwave, large table, Keurig and full-pot coffee, and all kitchenware. The first floor is fully handicap-accessible, including a bathroom with a roll-in, zero-threshold shower.

Weddings, Reunions & Corporate Events

The base camp offers an ideal setup for any kind of group event, with packages available for every budget. Reserve half the chalets and The Gathering House. Or buy out the property with a 2-night minimum, which includes up to 2 RV sites with electric and 4 tent sites. The camp can also arrange unforgettable activities for you and your group, like helicopter trips right from the lawn, guided hiking and kayaking, or kayak and bike rentals.

Accessibility

Alaskan adventures can be challenging for those with accessibility needs. That’s why the property has earned a mobility certification from the organization Becoming rentABLE, which seeks to expand accessibility in short-term rentals. BlueWater also owns a GRIT Freedom Chair—an all-terrain wheelchair with mountain bike tires—that’s available for guests to borrow. Additionally, they’ve also made The Gathering House and three large chalets handicap-accessible.
