Want to feel truly at home in Alaska? Rent one of the gorgeous homes at the Baycrest Lodge in Homer—a cluster of 8 properties set atop a 500-foot bluff right on the ocean, overlooking the shimmering waters of Kachemak Bay. It’s a piece of property so beautiful that the lodge first discovered it by building their own home here.
Most of the homes feature private outdoor saltwater hot tubs to enjoy the spectacular views from. And all have high-end appliances, art from local artists, a Weber gas grill, and top-quality and locally-made toiletries. Gaze out from your Alaskan abode and you’ll see glaciers, mountains, whales, bald eagles, moose, and even the occasional black bear—it’s truly the Alaska of your dreams.
Set just outside Homer, the Baycrest Lodge feels super-secluded yet is just a 5-minute drive to Old Homer and 10 minutes from the Homer Spit. Summertime stays average 3 nights, but you’ll likely want to stay longer.
The Homes
Lupine
The lodge’s flagship home, this 3-bedroom, 3-bath, 2,700-square-foot property is ideal for 2–3 couples or families, with everything you need for a luxurious stay. There’s a state-of-the-art kitchen, blown-glass pendant lights, heated bathroom floors, a huge living room with a fireplace, laundry area, and mud room. Upstairs, you’ll find a primary bedroom with a jaw-dropping view, sitting area, walk-in closet, and double-headed shower plus soaking tub. Or take in the view from the large outdoor hot tub, then enjoy the small private playground, pick strawberries from the plants in an old boat, and relax by the private fire pit.
Little Lupine
Couples traveling alone can luxuriate in just the downstairs portion of Lupine. You’ll get a luxurious 1-bedroom, 1-bath with living room, kitchen, and of course the outdoor hot tub.
Canyon Cottage
This quirky 2-bedroom, 2-bath home was original to the property and has been fully renovated, including a modern kitchen and laundry room. It’s a bit more secluded, with a big private side yard and a large deck, along with a hot tub, huge firepit, and cast iron sticks (s’mores, anyone?). The open loft upstairs can be used as a second bedroom; there’s a sitting area, sofa sleeper, and full bath.
Spruce
This tiny home is tailor-made for a couple that enjoys a cozy space and a bit of adventure. Set at the top of the hill, it’s a 1-bedroom, 1-bath home with a living room and brand-new stainless steel kitchen. Climb a ladder to reach the loft bedroom, where you’ll find a queen-size bed. Outside there’s a private hot tub and a shared fire pit.
Aspen & Birch
These identical, standalone cabins sit right next to each other in the middle of the lodge property and are great for a larger group of 8, where some want their own space. Each comes with its own private hot tub; you’ll also find big lawns and a shared fire pit at the end of the bluff with an amazing view—perfect for winding down your day.
Augustine
This secluded, 1-bedroom, 380-square-foot home is set a bit apart from the other properties, making it ideal for couples looking for some privacy. It features a private fire pit, 2-person hot tub, and has a slightly different view than the other homes, looking out across the stunning Cook Inlet. It sits closer to the Sterling Highway than the other homes, but even the little bit of road noise won’t detract from the romantic setting.
Alder & Fireweed
These two 1-bedroom properties are part of the same home; each has its own private entrance and is visually private from the other. The slightly smaller Fireweed is downstairs, with a private hot tub off to the side. Alder is upstairs, and the private hot tub is perched on a deck. In each, you’ll find a stone-laid bathroom, French doors leading to a king-size bed, and a full kitchen.
