Delores Sloan was born in Fort Yukon, Alaska and learned beadwork and skinsewing at an early age from her mother, Fanny Carroll. Her work can be found in numerous private and public collections including a beaded stole that was presented to Pope John Paul II when he visited Alaska in 1984. One of her specialties is baby belts, which feature elaborate floral designs of beads on tanned smoked moose hide which is traditionally used to carry babies on their mothers backs.
