How to get There
Access to the Alcantra Athletic Complex is from the Seldon Road. From downtown Wasilla travel north on Main Street (Wasilla Fishhook), take a right on Seldon Road, then another right on N. Winona Street (the access road to Larson Elementary School). Follow N. Winona Street east past the school and soccer fields. The street dead-ends at a large parking lot. Access to the trail system begins on the east side of the parking area toward the baseball fields.
General Description
Alcantra Athletic Complex Trail System has approximately 1.6 miles (2.5 kilometers) of trails which form two loops; one short loop around the baseball fields and another longer loop that parallels the residential area to the south. There are two shorter trails that connect the athletic fields, Larson Elementary School and Teeland Middle School to the loops. Most of the trail network traverses gentle terrain through a mixed forest of birch and spruce. The area is part of the greenbelt for Woodfield Estates, a residential subdivision that surrounds the school and athletic complex. Besides the trails, the greenbelt provides habitat for small animals, birds and moose. The trails also provide access to and from the two schools and the soccer and baseball fields.
Trail Uses
The Alcantra Athletic Complex Trail System is maintained by the MSB Parks and Outdoor Recreation Division for year round nonmotorized use; hiking, running, and biking in the summer, and cross-country skiing, hiking, and running, in the winter. When snow cover is sufficient, the trails are groomed for classic skiing. There is a porta-pottie in the parking lot adjacent to the baseball fields.
