Touring the spectacular tidewater glaciers of Prince William Sound is even more exciting when you do it on a Jet Ski. Go with Alaska Wild Guides out of Whittier to experience the area’s unique sights and sounds while skimming across the top of the water on your own personal watercraft.
Tour Ten Glaciers
The 4-hour long "Ten Glacier Tour" meets 15 minutes prior to your scheduled tour time at a cozy log cabin overlooking the marina. Guides will outfit you in a drysuit, neoprene boots and gloves, and a helmet for warmth. Then you'll start the tour in the protected waters of the Whittier harbor with a comprehensive instruction and safety talk, with the guides answering any questions you have. Jet skis are easy to operate and control, and are very stable on the water, so even beginners do fine.
Once out of the harbor, you'll travel close to the coastlines, stopping to view waterfalls, bird rookeries, and any wildlife that presents itself (owner Derek says he's never run a tour that hasn't seen wildlife out there!). Guests almost always see eagles, waterfowl, seals and sea otters, and often see sea lions. You may also see whales, porpoise, or black bears. You'll zip in and out of coves and bays viewing the stunning jagged rock formations dripping with moss and lichens, and travel past many glaciers oozing from the mountain tops.
The highlight of the tour is stopping in front of Beloit and Blackstone Glaciers, both of which are actively calving ice into the ocean. Weave through icebergs on your way as you get up close to the tidewater glaciers. On sunny days, many clients enjoy hopping off their jet skis and swimming in front of the glacier for a truly unique Alaskan experience!
