Prepare for Gorgeous Scenery

This 4-hour trip begins with a 25-minute helicopter flight from Homer to the bear-viewing paradise of Lake Clark National Park. You’ll be much closer to your destination than if you left from Anchorage (where many tours depart from), which gives you more time to do what you came to do…watch bears! And because the helicopter only holds up to 3 passengers, you’ll have a more intimate experience than flying on a plane (bonus: helicopter flights tend to be smoother than in airplanes). Along the way, you can check out active volcanoes and look for whales, moose, and other wildlife.

Bear Time

Your destination is Bear Mountain Lodge, on the southern edge of Lake Clark National Park where it hugs the coast of Cook Inlet. One benefit of this special area: There’s so much food for bears that you can see them from May all the way through September.

You’ll land on a beach, where an expert guide from the lodge will take you in a 4WD vehicle for the highlight—watching bears as they feed on salmon, sedge grasses, wild berries, or clams. And be sure to explore the area around the lodge, too, which has shimmering lakes and other gorgeous scenery.
