Discover cozy cabins, great food, and big Alaskan adventures at this intimate lodge that sits on the edge of the wilderness yet is super-accessible from Anchorage.
Remote Feel, Just 45 Minutes from Anchorage
It’s just a 45-minute drive from Anchorage, but the Alaska Glacier Lodge feels more like a remote, fly-in wilderness experience. It lies tucked in at the back of the Knik River Valley and at the end of Knik River Road, where Alaska’s real wilderness opens up, with mountain and river views—but without a flight or long drive. It’s the perfect place to escape for a few days, with lots of activities available from the lodge.
Settle in to Your Cabin
Start by settling into your cozy, private cabin. Each has a private front porch/deck and faces toward the glacier valley and river. Inside you’ll find a gas fireplace, as well as high-end bedding on your king or two queen beds. And while you may feel like you’re in the remote wilderness, you’ll have hot running water and showers, as well as a tea kettle, Keurig coffee pot, and mini fridge. Each cabin also has a TV connected only to DVD player.
Head to the lodge to pick out DVDs, or simply relax there in the big game room and use the free Wi-Fi. And enjoy meals with an incredible view at Raven’s Perch Restaurant, a great spot that highlights local, sustainable products. Breakfast is included in the stay, and you can get lunch and dinner as well in this unique spot with farm-to-table menu items like local potatoes, carrots, and zucchini—all sourced right from the valley you’re staying in.
No vehicle? No problem. The lodge can provide shuttle service in and out of Anchorage, as well as to the Wasilla train depot; from there, you can take the train on a day trip to Talkeetna or continue your vacation to Denali National Park and beyond.
Glacier Tours, ATV Rides & More
The lodge’s setting on the road system but also in the wilderness means that you have lots of options when it comes to activities. Helicopters take off right from the property, making flightseeing over the glacier easily accessible. You can also go fat-tire biking, glacier dog sledding, and take glacier treks on Knik Glacier. If ATVs are more your thing, go for a tour down the Knik River Valley and up to the Knik Glacier. Take a farm tour to discover the rich Matanuska Susitna Valley and its unique products. Or simply go for a hike—lots of trails are easily reachable from the lodge. There’s also a jetboat tour just down the road, and the Reindeer and Musk Ox Farm in Palmer is just a 20-minute drive from the lodge.
