Located on Kupreanof Island, Kake is accessible by ferry or airplane. Alaska Seaplanes operates three scheduled round-trip flights daily between Juneau and Kake in the summer and one in the winter. The flight takes about 50 minutes. Harris Air also flies into Kake from Sitka.

Unlike many small island communities in Southeast Alaska, Kake has a runway, so you can arrive on a wheeled plane instead of a float. This allows for more regular service even in poor weather conditions, since pilots can navigate under IFR (instrument flight rules) instead of VFR (visual flight rules). Essentially, this means when you fly in to Kake, you have fewer weather delays than in other communities in Southeast Alaska.

The Alaska Marine Highway System offers an 8-hour ferry ride between Juneau and Kake a few times a week year-round. (You can also route through Petersburg or Sitka). The ferry typically docks in late evening or early morning hours at the new Kake ferry terminal, built in 2016, located just a quarter mile south of town.
