Swamp Gentian
Gentiana douglasiana
Gentianaceae/Gentian Family
Swamp Gentian grows in bogs and wet meadows. The 2-8" branching stems arise from a few egg-shaped to elliptical leaves that form a rosette at the base. The white flowers have 5 petals, purplish spots or streaks and are often tinged with blue underneath and open up in bright sun.
Swamp Gentian is named after intrepid explorer and botanist David Douglas, of whom the Douglas Fir tree is named after.
