Red Currant
Ribes triste
Grossulariaceae/Gooseberry Family
Red Currant grows in moist woods and meadows. It is a deciduous shrub that normally reaches 2-3' tall. It has shredding bark and 3-5 lobed leaves (maple shaped) that are arranged spirally on the stems. The small, brick red flowers hang under the leaves. The tasty berries are red and translucent. They are about the size of a kernel of corn, with 3-10 berries on each grape-like bunch.
