Northern Shoveler

The Northern Shoveler is found throughout North America. One of its distinguishing characteristics is its elongated bill which is wider at the tip than the base and has projections along the edges that are used to strain food from the water. Males have a dark green head and rusty sides whereas the females are brown-headed and speckled over the rest of their bodies.
