Northern Grass-of-Parnassus
Parnassia palustris
Saxifragaceae/Saxifrage Family
Grass of Parnassus grows in wet meadows, roadside ditches and lake margins. It grows in a small clump with small, heart shaped, yellowish-green leaves at the base. White, 5 petaled flowers grow on top of a 5-8" stem.
The term parnassus comes from Mt. Parnassus, the holy mountain of Apollo and the Muses in Greece.
