The
deep waters of Alaska's North
Gulf Coast offer abundant halibut
fishing grounds, and Last
Frontier Adventures will
take you there. About an hour
and a half from Seward, your
experienced captain and crew
will work hard to help you catch
your limit (two halibut). Have
your camera ready as the boat
heads into Resurrection Bay,
as sea lions, sea otters, puffins,
porpoises, ducks, humpbacks,
and orcas may wait en route.
Around 80% of the trips spot
whales while fishing (and most
everyone lands a halibut). If
you reel in a live halibut
over 200lbs (half a dozen are
caught each season) and do a
live release, Last
Frontier Adventures will give you a free
trip credit! (Any
halibut over 60lbs is considered
a female, and a 200-pound
fish produces 200 eggs a year).
While hauling up a huge halibut
produces quite a thrill, nothing compares
to the heart-pounding fight of salmon
fishing. Depending on the run, saltwater
salmon in Resurrection Bay can be so
numerous you can't keep them off the
line. Silvers here can weigh over 20lbs,
and kings can be even larger. If you
enjoy a little competition, August
marks the annual Seward Silver Salmon
Derby, with $100,000 in prize money!
For a great fishing value and a variety
of fish, try the Multi-Species Adventure.
Depending on the season and the weather,
you'll target anything from halibut
and salmon to yellow eye, rockfish,
and ling cod. This is a great opportunity
to spend more time on the water and
hit more of the day's hotspots. Bottom
line-you'll catch more fish.
