Choose to paddle all three canyons-the third offers some of the toughest runnable whitewater around-or just enjoy a wild ride down one or two. Past paddlers say that when you get to the takeout, you'll be wearing a "Sixmile Smile."

Matanuska River
  NOVA Image
NOVA

NOVA, the oldest and most experienced rafting company in Alaska, pioneered rafting on the Matanuska River. Their popular Lion Head Run tackles a short, fast stretch of whitewater where the Matanuska gets squeezed between rock and ice. Paddle hard through Class III-IV rapids or just hold on tight in an oarboat. The scenic drive from Anchorage makes this a great day's outing, yet you won't find busloads of other rafters.
