Brooks River Fishing with Brooks Lodge
Brooks Lodge video »

Only serious anglers know about the amazing rainbow trout fishing on Brooks River, where there’s crystal clear water, big fish, and very few fishermen. And there’s no better base for a fishing trip here than Katmailand’s Brooks Lodge. The same family has run this lodge, which overlooks the river, for more than 60 years—they know everything about fishing here. And, since guides aren’t automatically included in the rates (though they’re available for hire), you’ll find it’s an affordable place to stay.

The lodge was founded by Ray Peterson, a local pioneer of sportfishing lodges, and it’s now run by his son Sonny. They’ve upgraded the original rustic “fishing camp,” and today you’ll find 16 comfortable, private rooms that sleep two to four people each. The main lodge overlooks Naknek Lake and is a social spot, with a circular fireplace, comfortable deck, and a dining area and bar where buffet-style meals are served.

This is the only lodge on the river, and world-class fishing is just a few short steps away. But you’ll also find great fishing throughout this area, known as Bristol Bay. The plentiful salmon in these rivers are the food source for bears at the famous Brooks River Falls (the bear-viewing platforms are nearby). The rivers also see plenty of rainbow trout, char, and grayling, while the lakes fill with lake trout and northern pike.

If you’re looking to explore the area, Brooks Lodge offers bear viewing opportunities plus boat and plane transportation to great lakes and streams. You can even travel to two remote lodges also run by the Petersons. Kulik and Grosvenor lodges are both located beside excellent fishing rivers and lakes, offer a secluded experience in the immense backcountry, and have immaculate quarters and comfortable main lodges, with fireplaces, stocked bars, and great food.

Whatever type of fishing you want, Katmailand's Brooks Lodge can make it happen.
