Sadie Cove Lodge image

Keith Iverson, a Kachemak Bay Pioneer, built this Eco-accredited, off the grid fortress from local driftwood that he milled into lumber by hand beginning in 1973. His wife, Randi, a present day wilderness woman and former New York City chef, heads the professional kitchen that creates all-you-can-eat, delicious meals of fresh, wild Alaskan seafood and other memorable specialties. Together, they have created a true Alaskan resort in a non-commercial atmosphere of casual elegance. The service is top shelf, the owners are ultra-accommodating, the cheerful staff will see to every one of your needs, the cabins are unique and beautiful, and the setting is pristine wilderness beauty inside of Alaska’s first State Park.

For the Iversons, Sadie Cove is more like a home than a business. For their guests, the lodge is like a fantasy vacation in the wilds of Alaska with creature comforts and personalized service plus a chance to live a real Alaskan lifestyle. The all-inclusive price gets you the use of kayaks, fishing gear, private hiking trails, prime wildlife viewing from the lodge decks, gourmet meals, and all sorts of hiking and beachcombing equipment. Stroll along stone walkways between the weathered cabins and explore private trails to a secluded alpine valley and waterfall where the only other people you will see will be other guests of the lodge. Flowers carpet the open meadows and moose browse at water’s edge in this very special place.

This lodge offers tours and adventures second to none with a maximum of 6 guests on any given trip. From Bear Viewing to Whale Watching to Glacier Tours to Sea Kayaking, Sadie Cove Lodge offers all of the “standards” plus many that you won’t find anywhere else. Dinner is the time to talk of adventures. The days are the time to experience them. Keith and Randi are happy to share their stories of their life in Alaska and Keith’s book "Alaska Viking" is a first-hand account of his pioneering years at Sadie Cove.

Watch the wild mountain goats and abundant sea life right from the lodge decks. Listen in the mornings for the chatter of bald eagles as the staff feeds them the scraps from the previous day on the beach. Become a wildlife photographer for a few days. Throughout this enchanted oasis are touches of Keith's Scandinavian ancestry, such as the handcrafted cabins, a log cabin sauna and bathhouse adjacent to a creek, and a fire pit for cookouts. On the shoreline there's a 45-foot ketch fitted with teak, mahogany, and brass- a sailboat that offers choice accommodation. Petroglyphs made by the very first Alaskans can be seen in a cave-like structure on the lodge property and on rare occasion an ancient stone artifact makes it’s way to the top of the beach gravel.

The lodge is off the grid. It is run on an ingenious alternative energy system of hydro and wild power. This system, developed and fine tuned over the years, services the entire lodge with energy to spare. Keith, who built the whole system himself, gives tours for guests who are interested in non-polluting power systems.

The average stay at Sadie Cove Wilderness Lodge is 5 nights and the majority of the guests are repeat customers or referrals. If you have a group of 8 or more, you get the whole place to yourselves.

The lodge has been listed by Conde Nast Traveler and Forbes as one of the top 10 Green Destinations in the US in 2007 and 2008 and today it is known as one of the top 10 Eco-Resorts in North America. Sadie Cove Lodge has been featured on The Discovery Channel, ESPN, and The Travel Channel.
