Tour Highlights
Seabird Experience Theater
Immerse your senses in natural phenomena that few people ever experience-the sights, sounds, and smells of life in the largest seabird refuge in the world. This self-guided tour, featuring sculpted recreations of wildlife and settings, as well as interactive stations, simulates a journey through the remote Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, which encompasses thousands of miles of coastline and tiny islands.

One Big Ocean
It is one big ocean that ultimately links all life on earth. Learn through an interactive exhibit how important the ocean is to wildlife and humans.

Where Rivers Meet the Sea
Discover the uniqueness of the Kachemak Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and dive into the oceanic, near-shore, and watershed research being conducted here.

A Dory's Story
See the boats that made life and work on the refuge possible. Bob "Sea Otter" Jones's dory is on display in the Islands & Ocean entryway. It will tell its story, and serve as a representative of the other dories that traveled the length of Alaska Maritime N.W.R. from the late 1940's to the mid-1970's, carrying forward the work of science in the Aleutian Chain before steel ships replaced them.

Meet the locals
Clem Tillion "When we were first married, the last steamer went out in October and didn't come back until April! There were no doctors, dentists, or electricity. I walked 300 miles to get to Homer, before the Sterling Highway was built."
