Safely explore a glacier during a three-hour trek with beautiful views of Girdwood Valley. Join The Ascending Path founder Matt Szundy-whose résumé includes experience in Antarctica and the Himalayas-or one of his fellow guides for an adventure to Alyeska Glacier. You'll meet at the base of the Alyeska Resort Tramway for an introduction and brief trip explanation, then ride the tram to the Glacier Express Lodge on Mt. Alyeska (2,2000 feet). The tram ride itself is a scenic seven minutes, offering panoramic views of mountains, hanging glaciers, spruce, and wildlife.

A gentle, 50-minute hike leads you to the glacier's edge. All hikes are team-paced, and no one gets left behind. There, you'll put on over-boots and a climbing harness and rope up to walk out onto the glacier itself. While on the glacier, you'll spend a good hour exploring, learning firsthand about the unique geological features specific to glaciers.

The Ascending Path also offers guided rock climbing, ice climbing, and other activities.

Details: No experience necessary. The minimum age requirement is 10.

What To Bring

Sturdy footwear, water, a snack, your camera, sunglasses, sunscreen, and/or a baseball cap.
Dress comfortably and in layers-with a fleece or wool sweater and a rain jacket.
Be prepared for potential weather changes.

Directions

To get to the tram to check in with your guide, follow the Alyeska Highway to the T-intersection at the base of Alyeska Ski Resort, take a left and follow the road for about a mile until it ends at The Hotel Alyeska. The tram and the tram ticket office are outside on the rear left side of the hotel (as you're looking up at the mountain).

Advance reservations of at least one week are recommended. Accepted: MC, V.

	Cancellation Policy
Full refunds are available for cancellations 72 hours or more from departure, with 50% refunds between 24 and 72 hours. No refund is available for a cancellation less than 24 hours from departure. There are no refunds once a trip has commenced (departed from the lower tramway).
