Safely
explore a glacier during a three-hour
trek with beautiful views of Girdwood
Valley. Join The
Ascending Path founder Matt
Szundy-whose résumé includes
experience in Antarctica and the Himalayas-or
one of his fellow guides for an adventure
to Alyeska Glacier. You'll meet at
the base of the Alyeska Resort Tramway
for an introduction and brief trip
explanation, then ride the tram to
the Glacier Express Lodge on Mt. Alyeska
(2,2000 feet). The tram ride itself
is a scenic seven minutes, offering
panoramic views of mountains, hanging
glaciers, spruce, and wildlife.
A gentle, 50-minute hike leads you
to the glacier's edge. All hikes are
team-paced, and no one gets left behind.
There, you'll put on over-boots and
a climbing harness and rope up to walk
out onto the glacier itself. While
on the glacier, you'll spend a good
hour exploring, learning firsthand
about the unique geological features
specific to glaciers.
The Ascending Path also offers guided
rock climbing, ice climbing, and other
activities.
