There are few things more spectacular
than lifting off in a helicopter and
soaring into Alaska's glacier-filled
terrain or out over its shimmering
waters. You'll get an up-close view
of snow-capped peaks and glaciers,
looking for wildlife along the way.
And because helicopters are so maneuverable,
you can even land and explore on foot
or dogsled.
When you go with Alpine
Air Alaska,
you'll have your choice of trips. Get
a taste for helicopter flightseeing
on a 30-minute trip into the 20-Mile
river valley and the heart of glacier
country. Or jump on the most popular
option: the glacier landing tour. Fly
through the backcountry, out over the
brilliant blue of glacier fields, then
land right on the icy face of one—it's
a surreal experience. Those with more
time should tack on a spin out over
Prince William Sound, flying over the
clear waters and rocky fjords, with
a chance to spot whales and other marine
wildlife. And for a true helicopter
expedition, head out to the Columbia
Glacier, 15 thousand square miles of
ice and the largest tidewater glacier
in Prince William Sound. You'll do
a glacier landing and explore the Sound,
along with experiencing this enormous
glacier.
To really ratchet up the adventure
factor, try your hand at dogsledding!
You'll travel
by helicopter from Girdwood's green
forests up over a small saddle to land
on a glacier and be introduced to the
dog team. You'll get to stand on the
sled runners and "drive" the
dogs yourself, or sit in the sled and
survey the hanging glaciers that surround
you.
Whichever trip you choose, your helicopter
adventure with Alpine Air Alaska is
sure to be one of the highlights of
your Alaskan visit.
