Step aboard Princess’s
Midnight Sun Express, a double-decker
car with 360-degree dome views,
a dining area, and large open-air
platforms. The engine pulling Princess’s
cars is Alaska Railroad, and you
can also choose an Alaska
Railroad car or one run by Holland
America.
But Princess offers some unique
options, and though many passengers
are part of a cruise-tour, there
are also plenty of seats for independent
travelers.
You’ll be moving through
the Alaskan countryside on the largest
domed train cars ever made. Seating
on board Princess’s cars is
in tables of four, allowing for a
social setting among the fresh flowers
and fine artwork. As you take in
the 360-degree view, share the experience
with your family, or meet new friends
as you chug your way north from Anchorage.
Listen to the interesting commentary
provided by your onboard hosts. Then
step outside to inhale some Alaskan
fresh air. The large outdoor viewing
platforms allow for many people to
be outside at once and reduce crowding.
Check out the GPS system that maps
your precise spot and offers historical
facts about your current location.
When you get hungry, go downstairs
to the dining room. Look out the
five-foot picture windows as you
sit down to a fresh, made-to-order
entrée prepared by the onboard
chefs.
And don’t hurry back to your
starting point. Combine your train
ride with a stay at one of Princess’s
luxurious lodges: the Denali
Princess Wilderness Lodge, near the entrance
to Denali National Park, or the Mt.
McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge,
with amazing view of Mt. McKinley.
All summer, Princess Tours offers a
variety of packages leaving every day
from Anchorage and Fairbanks. You’ll
be whisked from train to hotel and
checked in aboard the shuttle. Then
spend one or more days enjoying luxurious
accommodations with plenty of outdoor-excursion
options.
