Halibut Charters Image

Alaska halibut are likely the biggest fish you'll ever catch in your life: most likely 10-35 pounds but up to 400 pounds! You "jig" for these bottom-dwellers out on the ocean. Your best bet: head to Seward or Homer (two great small towns) and book into a charter, where everything's included.

Expect an hour or more of boat travel to get to a prime ocean spot, then cast away and get ready for the wrestling match of a lifetime. Here's how to bring home that barndoor-sized fish.

Our Favorite Tours & Activities
Homer Halibut Charters
Biggest halibut   • Longer drive but shorter boat ride   • Protected waters   • End-of-the-road town
Rust's Flying Service
Inlet Charters
Ready to reel in the biggest catch of your life? The average Homer halibut tips the scale around 28lbs, but there's always a good chance of catching a fish as big as 400lbs! Inlet Charters take you into sheltered Kachemak Bay, where professional guides help you hook, haul, and land your fish. Limit catches (two halibut) are the rule, not the exception.
4.5 - 5 hr drive Full Day Tour $153-240 April - Sept

Seward Halibut Charters

Rust's Flying Service
Last Frontier Adventures
The deep waters of Alaska's North Gulf Coast offer abundant halibut fishing grounds, and the experienced captain and crew of Last Frontier Adventures will take you there. Have your camera ready as the boat heads into Seward's Resurrection Bay, as you may pass sea lions, puffins, humpbacks, and more. Around 80% of the trips spot whales while fishing (and most everyone lands a halibut).
2.5 - 4.5 hr Full Day Tour $210 Mid May - Mid Aug
