Set right in downtown Fairbanks, overlooking the Chena River, the intimate, 94-room Bridgewater
Hotel feels more like a European inn than a city hotel, yet it offers excellent value. Open only in summer, the quaint inn features a pink-and-turquoise color scheme that gives it a light and airy feel, something the bamboo furniture only accentuates. Look for “Buzzy,” the general manager, who’s always around to make sure guests are getting the attentive service and quality accommodations they need.
Rooms in this small hotel are cozy and quaint, and in each there’s a booklet called “Staying Alive in the Arctic,” full of fun facts, trivia, and games for kids and adults alike. Every morning, wake up to a breakfast buffet of fresh fruit and reindeer sausage. And while that’s the only meal served here, the excellent restaurants of Fairbanks are right outside the doors of the Bridgewater Hotel.
