There's no better way to experience the Alaska backcountry than on a river. With Denali View Raft Adventures, you'll get to float quietly downstream, looking for wildlife and enjoying the quiet and solitude of the wilderness, while your guide shares tales about Alaska life and the countryside. Located in Talkeetna and in the shadow of Denali (formerly Mt. McKinley), the company offers several trips, perfect for a mid-day break on the drive from Anchorage to Denali, or for an adventure during an extended stay in town. Started in 1989, Denali View Raft focuses solely on river running, and owners Matt and Heather make sure you'll have fun, safe floats. They employ only Alaskan guides, limit their trips to small group sizes and focus on taking visitors to places they wouldn't go otherwise. Whether it's your first time off pavement or you're a river runner, Denali View Raft has a trip for you and your family.
Talkeetna River Float Tour—2 hours
If this is your first river trip or you're just looking to get out of the car for a break in your drive to the National Park, this is a perfect introductory float. Not too far into the backcountry and not too long, you'll still get to experience the Alaskan wilderness and the serenity of the local river. Spot spawning salmon and beaver lodges while floating this stretch of river. The Talkeetna River isn't in a canyon, so you'll have big views, and on clear days Denali will loom large in the background!
Big Su Float Trip—3 hours
Leaving from town, this trip covers more miles and gives you more time on the river. On clear days, you'll have views of Denali for over half the float. Learn about natural history of glaciers and mountains, flora and fauna, as well as the history of this tiny village in the Alaska backcountry, while your guide navigates the current of this smooth river.
Flag Stop Rail and Raft Tour—4.5 hours
Combine a rail ride with a float on this great tour. Ride one of the last flag stop trains in the country through the Alaska countryside, then signal the conductor at your river stop in Chase. A short walk down the bank to the Susitna and you'll be greeted by your guides with the rafts. You'll float by huge ferns, bald eagles and big views while the pristine, glacial river carries you downstream. A longer trip, you'll really settle into the river groove, and get to enjoy a gourmet deli lunch at a pull-out on the river.
