Hewn from local timber and imbued with luxurious touches, this low-rise lodge just one mile from the Denali National Park entrance feels intimate despite its 656 rooms. The main building, with its 40-foot windows and outdoor deck provide for great views of the Nenana River Canyon. And its two-story rock fireplace is the perfect place to relax. Stroll the river bluff at your doorstep or sit down to your choice of meals in one of the lodge’s five restaurants.
Open in the summer season only, Denali
Princess Wilderness Lodge is built in the tradition of some of the great national park lodges, full of natural wood and surrounded by nature. Yet right on the premises you’ll find tons of restaurant choices: a deli, pizza parlor, a casual restaurant, and an upscale dining room, the King Salmon Restaurant. As the name implies, the restaurant serves fresh-caught Alaskan seafood—king crab, halibut and wild salmon. There’s also the Music of Denali Dinner Theatre, where you can combine an Alaskan meal with a musical rendition of pioneer days.
Of course, you’ll want to get out there and experience the magic of Denali National Park and the wealth of activities that surround it. The lodge’s tour desk can set you up with whatever you like, from a park tour to hiking, flightseeing, rafting, and more.
The best way to get here is by Princess rail service, with glass-dome cars and open-air viewing platforms makes for an amazing ride, and packages are available from Anchorage and Fairbanks.
